Juniors Development

A track bike is provided if you do not own one!

 

Our youth development classes are designed for riders 8 years of age to 17 years of age with little or no bike racing experience, as well as experienced road riders new to track riding.  Each session is made up of a series of six classes. All classes should be completed in consecutive order.

Intro classes goals:

  • Have fun

  • Make new friends

  • The basic skills of handling a fixed gear track bike

  • How to enter and exit the track safely

  • Velodrome etiquette

  • How to ride pace lines

  • How to ride structured workouts

Advanced classes goals:

  • Friendly competition

  • Learn race strategies

  • Race at FNR, TNR, or other events like Junior Nationals

INFO: The SDVA Juniors program is NOT SD VeloYouth - SDVY program is separate from the San Diego Velodrome Association.

Rider Requirements
  • A parent must be there in person to meet the coach, see the velodrome and sign two releases before any child can ride the SD velodrome.

  • ​All children under the age of 12 must have a parent present during the entire class.

  • ​Riders must be at least 8 years of age and be able to receive and respond appropriately to instruction.

  • The coaches have a strict respect policy with how athletes speak to and treat the coaches and each other. This class is meant to be a safe environment for all of the participants.

What to bring
  • Bicycle helmet

  • Tennis or running shoes

  • Cycling appropriate clothing

  • Gloves

  • Riding glasses

  • Water bottle

  • Light snack or energy bar

Cost

Members: $30
Non-members: $70
