Junior Introductory Classes and Developent

COST: FREE for first session (FROG/Beginners)
Membership required for Intermediate Riders and Returning FROGS  
  • A parent must be there in person to meet the coach, see the velodrome and sign two 2020 releases before any child can ride the SD velodrome.
  • ​All children under the age of 12 must have a parent present during the entire class.
  • ​Riders must be at least 8 years of age and be able to receive and respond appropriately to instruction.
  • The coaches have a strict respect policy with how athletes speak to and treat the coaches and each other. This class is meant to be a safe environment for all of the participants.
Over the length of the program participants can expect to learn:
  • The basic skills of handling a fixed gear track bike
  • How to enter and exit the track safely
  • Velodrome etiquette
  • How to ride pace lines
  • How to ride structured workouts
  • Basic race-oriented topics.
What to bring
  • Helmet
  • Tennis or running shoes
  • Cycling appropriate clothing.
  • Gloves
  • Riding glasses
  • Water bottle
  • Light snack or energy bar

Youth Velodrome Skills Classes
Our youth development classes are designed for riders 10 years of age to 17 years of age with little or no bike racing experience as well as experienced road riders new to track riding.  Each session is made up of a series of six classes. All classes should be completed in consecutive order. The Level 1 class is the starting point for juniors interested in riding on the track.

Classes run every Monday 4:00 to 6:00PM, March to September. 

Beginner Classes (ages 10 to 17) - 4:00 to 6:00PM
Beginners FROG Program (ages 8 to 10) - 4:00 to 6:00PM

A track bike is provided if you do not own one!

Upon completion of the LEVEL 1 course and passing a rider proficiency test, riders are eligible to attend to the ADVANCED Training on Thursdays.
